Abstract:

The delusional misidentification syndromes include Capgras syndrome, Frégoli syndrome, the syndrome

of intermetamorphosis, syndrome of subjective doubles and reduplicative paramnesia. These are

relatively rare conditions but nonetheless are of great and continuing interest to psychiatrists,

neuropsychologists, neuroscientists, and philosophers. Capgras syndrome, in particular, is reminiscent

of prosopagnosia and hence the interest in the possibility that a discrete neuropathology might be

identifiable resulted in a surge of interest in these conditions. In this talk I will discuss the clinical features

of these conditions and draw attention to what we know of the underlying neuropsychiatric

underpinnings, the cognitive neuropsychological abnormalities and what we can deduce about

transdiagnostic aspects of psychiatric conditions
