Abstract:
Increased dopamine synthesis is an established observation in schizophrenia. It is not known whether the dopamine abnormality is specific for schizophrenia, or whether it reflects the psychosis component of schizophrenia, and as such, is shared by other conditions with psychotic manifestations. We conducted a PET-MR study to measure dopamine synthesis capacity in first-episode delusion disorder patients and found evidence for an increase in striatal dopamine synthesis. The implications of this finding will be discussed.
