MBBS Medical Undergraduate Programme
The Department of Psychiatry at HKU aims to equip medical students with essential knowledge and skills in assess, diagnose and manage individuals with mental health concerns through the patient-centred approach in the MBBS programme. Our teaching and learning activities start from the early clinical years:

In MBBS Year 4, Psychiatry teaching begins in the Clinical Foundation Block. Medical students learn psychopathology, history-taking and mental state examination through interactive seminars and e-learning materials.​​
​​Clinical Foundation Block & General Clerkship
After the Clinical Foundation Block, students will transit to the General Clerkship which focuses on common mental health disorders in community settings.

Students will enrich their psychiatric knowledge and clinical skills through psychiatric assessment skill training sessions, tutorials and experiential learning activities​
Clinical Foundation Block Whole Class Session
At the end of the General Clerkship, students will be assessed through continuous assessment, formative and summative examinations.
Assistant Internship​
In MBBS Year 5 & 6, teaching and learning activities in Psychiatry continues in the 7-week Assistant Internship.
Through e-learning materials from lectures to clinical skills demonstrations, face-to-face teachings during the central academic week, and clinical attachments to different psychiatric units/ hospital, students will familiarize and consolidate their psychiatric assessment and management skills over a variety of psychiatric diagnoses in the secondary care setting.

Assistant Internship Class Session
At the end of the Assistant Internship in Psychiatry, students will be evaluated based on the following areas:

Final MBBS Summative Written Examination in Psychiatry
Other teaching and learning activities
