Abstract:

This study aims to assess the psychometric characteristics and diagnostic validity of the Chinese version of Generalised Anxiety Disorder 7-item version (GAD-7) in a large epidemiological sample of young people in Hong Kong. The psychometric properties, construct validity, criterion validity, concurrent validity, and goodness of fit of a unidimensional model were examined. Given that anxiety is one of the most commonly reported mental health complaints among adolescents, a statistically sound and easy-to-use assessment instrument is of the utmost importance. Yet the validation of the GAD-7 in Asia is still very limited. We believe our study can make a significant contribution to the literature through a more comprehensive examination using a representative epidemiological sample of adolescents in Hong Kong.
