Abstract:
In this talk, I will provide an overview of our recent research on impulsivity. I will start by introducing relevant methodological approaches in impulsivity research. Next, I will discuss the psychometric structure of this broad construct, drawing on evidence from network analysis and recent theoretical criticisms. Then I will provide evidence on associations between psychometric and experimental measures of impulsivity and I will present findings from our work using psychopharmacological approaches and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Overall, it is concluded that impulsivity is a broad, multi-faceted construct with relevance to many areas of psychological and psychiatric research, at both basic and clinical levels.
