Abstract:

Mental illnesses are not just neuropsychiatric spectrum disorders but also disorders of social relationship and environmental/ecological adaptation. Neuropsychiatry as a clinical neuroscience per se lacks the semantics to explore the rich interactions between the physical, psychological, social and spiritual in the experience of our patients. Three case vignettes are presented to illustrate how hermeneutics and valuesbased practice inform evidence-based neuropsychiatry to be person centered and personalized.
